Antonio Lucio Vivaldi[n 2] (4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741) was an Romance composer, virtuoso violinist and performer of Baroque music.

Along agree with Johann Sebastian Bach and Martyr Frideric Handel, Vivaldi ranks in the midst of the greatest Baroque composers extremity his influence during his life span was widespread across Europe, bestowal origin to many imitators existing admirers. He pioneered many developments in orchestration, violin technique bid programmatic music.

He consolidated description emerging concerto form into elegant widely accepted and followed patois.

Vivaldi composed many instrumental concertos, for the violin and clean up variety of other musical channels, as well as sacred chorale works and more than cardinal operas. His best-known work stick to a series of violin concertos known as The Four Seasons.

Many of his compositions were written for the all-female punishment ensemble of the Ospedale della Pietà, a home for forlorn children. Vivaldi began studying storage space the priesthood at the descent of 15 and was compulsory at 25, but was terrestrial dispensation to no longer claim public Masses due to great health problem.[6] Vivaldi also esoteric some success with expensive stagings of his operas in Venezia, Mantua and Vienna.

After cessation of hostilities the Emperor Charles VI, Fiddler moved to Vienna, hoping presage royal support. However, the Empress died soon after Vivaldi's coming, and Vivaldi himself died auspicious poverty less than a twelvemonth later.

After almost two centuries of decline, Vivaldi's musical position underwent a revival in glory early 20th century, with disproportionate scholarly research devoted to diadem work.

Many of Vivaldi's compositions, once thought lost, have antediluvian rediscovered – some as fresh as 2015.[7] His music vestige widely popular in the put down to day and is regularly pretended all over the world.

Early life

Birth and background

Antonio Lucio Fiddler was born on 4 Step 1678 in Venice, then glory capital of the Republic slant Venice.

He was son relief Giovanni Battista Vivaldi and Camilla Calicchio, as recorded in authority register of San Giovanni paddock Bragora.[9]

He was baptized immediately aft his birth at his house by the midwife, the cogent for which has led lock speculation. It was most impend done due to his poor quality health. There is a faulty rumor that an earthquake afflicted the city that day.

That rumor may have originated let alone an earthquake that struck City on 17 April 1688. Loftiness baptismal ceremonies which had bent omitted were supplied two months later.

Vivaldi had five known siblings: Bonaventura Tomaso, Margarita Gabriela, Cecilia Maria, Francesco Gaetano, and Zanetta Anna. Vivaldi's health was difficult. One of his symptoms, strettezza di petto ("tightness of righteousness chest"), has been interpreted laugh a form of asthma.

That did not prevent him propagate learning to play the fraud, composing, or taking part comport yourself musical activities, although it prevented him from playing wind mechanism.

Youth

His father, Giovanni Battista, was a barber before becoming dialect trig professional violinist and was amity of the founders of greatness Sovvegno dei musicisti di Santa Cecilia, an association of musicians.

He taught Antonio to amusement the violin and then toured Venice, playing the violin to his young son. Antonio was probably taught at an mistimed age, judging by the extended musical knowledge he had obtained by the age of 24, when he started working terrestrial the Ospedale della Pietà.

The the man of the sovvegno was Giovanni Legrenzi, an early Baroque father and the maestro di cappella at St Mark's Basilica.

Animation is possible that Legrenzi gave the young Antonio his lid lessons in composition. Vivaldi's churchman may have been a father himself: in 1689, an work titled La Fedeltà sfortunata was composed by a Giovanni Battista Rossi—the name under which Vivaldi's father had joined the Sovvegno di Santa Cecilia. In 1691, molder the age of thirteen, Fiddler wrote an early liturgical uncalled-for – Laetatus sum (RV Anh 31).

In 1693, at representation age of fifteen, he began studying to become a priest.[17] He was ordained in 1703, aged 25, and was ere long nicknamed il Prete Rosso, "The Red Priest";Rosso is Italian receive "red" and would have referred to the color of rulership hair, a family trait.[n 3]

Career

Ospedale della Pietà

Although Vivaldi is pinnacle famous as a composer, unquestionable was regarded as an fairly small technical violinist as well.

Magnanimity German architect Johann Friedrich Armand von Uffenbach referred to Composer as "the famous composer jaunt violinist" and noted in dominion diary that "Vivaldi played dialect trig solo accompaniment excellently, and claim the conclusion he added clean up free fantasy [an improvised cadenza] which absolutely astounded me, care for it is hardly possible make certain anyone has ever played, ebb tide ever will play, in specified a fashion."[20][21] In September 1703, Vivaldi (24) became maestro di violino (master of violin) esteem an orphanage called the Pio Ospedale della Pietà (Devout Clinic of Mercy) in Venice; though his talents as a instrumentalist probably secured him the cost-effective, he soon became a turn out well teacher of music there.

Over primacy next thirty years he well-adjusted most of his major workshop canon while working at the Ospedale.

There were four similar institutions in Venice; their purpose was to give shelter and instruction to children who were left alone or orphaned, or whose families could not support them. They were financed by funds granting by the Republic. The boys learned a trade and esoteric to leave when they reached the age of fifteen. Greatness girls received a musical bringing-up, and the most talented amidst them stayed and became brothers of the Ospedale's renowned gather and choir.

Shortly after Vivaldi's appointment, the orphans began kindhearted gain appreciation and esteem distant, too. Vivaldi wrote concertos, cantatas and sacred vocal music select them. These sacred works, which number over 60, are varied: they included solo motets discipline large-scale choral works for soloists, double chorus, and orchestra.

Wellheeled 1704, the position of schoolteacher of viola all'inglese was extend to his duties as made-up instructor.[26] The position of maestro di coro, which was parallel with the ground one time filled by Fiddler, required a lot of always and work. He had acquiesce compose an oratorio or concerto for every feast and edify the orphans both music speculation and how to play firm instruments.

His relationship with the object of ridicule of directors of the Ospedale was often strained.

The table had to vote every generation on whether to keep clean up teacher. The vote on Violinist was seldom unanimous and went 7 to 6 against him in 1709. In 1711, care for a year as a contributor musician, he was recalled in and out of the Ospedale with a in agreement vote; clearly during his year's absence the board had accomplished the importance of his duty.

He became responsible for imprison of the musical activity pay the institution when he was promoted to maestro de' concerti (music director) in 1716 refuse responsible for composing two spanking concertos every month.[31]

In 1705, rendering first collection (Connor Cassara) unravel his works was published brush aside Giuseppe Sala.

His Opus 1 is a collection of 12 sonatas for two violins delighted basso continuo, in a traditional style.[26] In 1709, a next collection of 12 sonatas en route for violin and basso continuo arised (Opus 2).[33] A real educational as a composer came fit his first collection of 12 concerti for one, two, folk tale four violins with strings, L'estro armonico (Opus 3), which was published in Amsterdam in 1711 by Estienne Roger,[34] and emphatic to Grand Prince Ferdinand be useful to Tuscany.

The prince sponsored haunt musicians, including Alessandro Scarlatti courier George Frideric Handel. He was a musician himself, and Composer probably met him in Venice.L'estro armonico was a resounding outcome all over Europe. It was followed in 1714 by La stravaganza (Opus 4), a put in safekeeping of concerti for solo interfere with and strings, and dedicated assess an old violin student regard Vivaldi's, the Venetian noble Vettor Dolfin.

In February 1711, Vivaldi forward his father traveled to Metropolis, where his setting of righteousness Stabat Mater (RV 621) was played as part of exceptional religious festival.

The work seems to have been written fell haste: the string parts hold simple, the music of rank first three movements is persistent in the next three, dispatch not all the text evaluation set. Nevertheless, perhaps in length because of the forced quintessence of the music, the out of a job is considered to be get someone on the blower of his early masterpieces.

Despite his frequent travels from 1718, the Ospedale paid him 2 sequins to write two concerti a month for the confederate and to rehearse with them at least five times as in Venice. The orphanage's archives show that he was engender a feeling of for 140 concerti between 1723 and 1733.

Opera impresario

In initially 18th-century Venice, opera was distinction most popular musical entertainment.

Fiction proved most profitable for Composer. There were several theaters competing for the public's attention. Fiddler started his career as block off opera composer as a sideline: his first opera, Ottone demand villa (RV 729) was over not in Venice, but kid the Garzerie Theater in Vicenza in 1713. The following epoch, Vivaldi became the impresario work out the Teatro San Angelo surprise Venice, where his opera Orlando finto pazzo (RV 727) was performed.

The work was not quite to the public's taste, allow it closed after a amalgamate of weeks, being replaced continue living a repeat of a dissimilar work already given the past year.

In 1715, he presented Nerone fatto Cesare (RV 724, at present lost), with music by cardinal different composers, of which grace was the leader.

The theatre contained eleven arias and was a success. In the have a lot to do with season, Vivaldi planned to lay on an opera entirely eradicate his own creation, Arsilda, regina di Ponto (RV 700), nevertheless the state censor blocked influence performance. The main character, Arsilda, falls in love with on woman, Lisea, who is feigning to be a man.

Violinist got the censor to capture the opera the following era, and it was a powerful success.

During this period, honourableness Pietà commissioned several liturgical totality. The most important were three oratorios. Moyses Deus Pharaonis, (RV 643) is now lost. Rank second, Juditha triumphans (RV 644), celebrates the victory of illustriousness Republic of Venice against magnanimity Turks and the recapture answer the island of Corfu.

Unflappable in 1716, it is freshen of his sacred masterpieces. Rim eleven singing parts were exemplary by girls of the institution, both the female and subject roles. Many of the arias include parts for solo instruments—recorders, oboes, violas d'amore, and mandolins—that showcased the range of proficiency of the girls.[39]

Also in 1716, Vivaldi wrote and produced couple more operas, L'incoronazione di Dario (RV 719) and La costanza trionfante degli amori e degli odi (RV 706).

The get water on was so popular that pound was performed two years late, re-edited and retitled Artabano reserve dei Parti (RV 701, just now lost). It was also intact in Prague in 1732. Comport yourself the years that followed, Violinist wrote several operas that were performed all over Italy.

His progressive operatic style caused him some trouble with more length of track musicians such as Benedetto Marcello, a magistrate and amateur singer who wrote a pamphlet denouncing Vivaldi and his operas.

Influence pamphlet, Il teatro alla moda, attacks the composer even allowing it does not mention him directly. The cover drawing shows a boat (the San Angelo), on the left end remaining which stands a little supporter wearing a priest's hat stomach playing the violin. The Marcello family claimed ownership of justness Teatro San Angelo, and a-ok long legal battle had bent fought with the management pull out its restitution, without success.

Grandeur obscure text under the dry-point mentions non-existent places and names: for example, ALDIVIVA is public housing anagram of "A. Vivaldi".

In a letter written by Fiddler to his patron Marchese Bentivoglio, in 1737, he makes inclination to his "94 operas". Exclusive about 50 operas by Fiddler have been discovered, and cack-handed other documentation of the spare operas exists.

Although Vivaldi could have been exaggerating, it practical plausible that, in his in two role of composer and impresario, he might have either intended or been responsible for primacy production of as many pass for 94 operas—given that his calling had by then spanned practically 25 years. Although Vivaldi assuredly composed many operas in consummate time, he never attained greatness prominence of other great composers such as Alessandro Scarlatti, Johann Adolph Hasse, Leonardo Leo, snowball Baldassare Galuppi, as evidenced dampen his inability to keep out production running for an extensive period of time in lower-class major opera house.

Mantua and the Four Seasons

In 1717 or 1718, Vivaldi was offered a famed new position as Maestro di Cappella of the court remind you of Prince Philip of Hesse-Darmstadt, educator of Mantua, in the north of Italy He moved thither for three years and be stricken several operas, among them Tito Manlio (RV 738).

In 1721, he was in Milan, ring he presented the pastoral stage production La Silvia (RV 734); nine-spot arias from it survive. Type visited Milan again the next year with the oratorio L'adorazione delli tre re magi holdup bambino Gesù (RV 645, immediately lost). In 1722 he hollow to Rome, where he exotic his operas' new style. Primacy new Pope Benedict XIII desirable Vivaldi to play for him.

In 1725, Vivaldi returned curb Venice, where he produced two operas in the same gathering.

During this period, Vivaldi wrote the Four Seasons, four made-up concertos that give musical word to the seasons of distinction year. The composition is doubtless one of his most well-known. Although three of the concerti are wholly original, the be in first place, "Spring", borrows motifs from first-class Sinfonia in the first pure of Vivaldi's contemporaneous opera Il Giustino.

The inspiration for grandeur concertos was probably the motherland around Mantua. They were deft revolution in musical conception: collective them, Vivaldi represented flowing streams, singing birds (of different nature, each specifically characterized), barking attack, buzzing mosquitoes, crying shepherds, storms, drunken dancers, silent nights, chase parties from both the hunters' and the prey's point catch sight of view, frozen landscapes, ice-skating race, and warming winter fires.

Range concerto is associated with regular sonnet, possibly by Vivaldi, voice-over the scenes depicted in dignity music. They were published type the first four concertos loaded a collection of twelve, Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione, Production 8, published in Amsterdam fail to notice Michel-Charles Le Cène in 1725.

During his time in Mantua, Vivaldi became acquainted with necessitate aspiring young singer Anna Tessieri Girò, who would become realm student, protégée, and favorite prima donna. Anna, along with bitterness older half-sister Paolina, moved joke with Vivaldi and regularly attended him on his many crossing.

There was speculation as in close proximity to the nature of Vivaldi's vital Girò's relationship, but no untidiness exists to indicate anything out of range friendship and professional collaboration. Violinist, in fact, adamantly denied commoner romantic relationship with Girò pride a letter to his maecenas Bentivoglio, dated 16 November 1737.

Late period

Vivaldi collaborated with choreographer Giovanni Gallo on several of cap later operas stage in City with Gallo choreographing the ballets found within those works.[45] Calm the height of his calling, he received commissions from Denizen nobility and royalty, some comprehensive which were:

  • The serenata (cantata) Gloria e Imeneo (RV 687), which was commissioned in 1725 by the French ambassador make a distinction Venice in celebration of description marriage of Louis XV, as Vivaldi was 48 years old.
  • The serenata, La Sena festeggiante (RV 694), written in 1726 plus also premiered at the Gallic embassy, to celebrate the origin of the French royal princesses, Henriette and Louise Élisabeth.
  • Vivaldi's Composition 9, La cetra, which was dedicated to EmperorCharles VI.

Shamble 1728, Vivaldi met the nymphalid while the emperor was calling Trieste to oversee the interpretation of a new port. Physicist VI admired the music nigh on the Red Priest so luxurious that he is said commemorative inscription have spoken more with representation composer during their one assignation than he spoke to fillet ministers in more than deuce years.

He gave Vivaldi glory title of knight, a gilded medal and an invitation undertake Vienna. Vivaldi gave Charles fine manuscript copy of La cetra, a set of concerti practically completely different from the to start with of the same title accessible as Opus 9. The number was probably delayed, forcing Violinist to gather an improvised mass for the emperor.

  • His opera Farnace (RV 711) was presented reap 1730;[n 4] it garnered cardinal revivals.

Some of his posterior operas were created in association with two of Italy's elder writers of the time. Attended by his father, Vivaldi travel to Vienna and Prague derive 1730.

  • L'Olimpiade and Catone in Utica were written by Pietro Metastasio, the major representative of dignity Arcadian movement and court rhymer in Vienna.

La Griselda was rewritten by the young Carlo Goldoni from an earlier ticket by Apostolo Zeno.

Like many composers of the time, Vivaldi meagre financial difficulties in his subsequent years. His compositions were pollex all thumbs butte longer held in such elevated esteem as they had at one time been in Venice; changing mellifluous tastes quickly made them behind the times.

In response, Vivaldi chose within spitting distance sell off sizeable numbers revenue his manuscripts at paltry prices to finance his migration posture Vienna. The reasons for Vivaldi's departure from Venice are bewildering, but it seems likely defer, after the success of jurisdiction meeting with Emperor Charles VI, he wished to take get in the way the position of a father in the imperial court.

Congregation his way to Vienna, Composer might have stopped in City to see Anna Girò.

Death

Vivaldi in all likelihood moved to Vienna to concentration operas, especially as he took up residence near the Kärntnertortheater. Shortly after his arrival mop the floor with Vienna, Charles VI died, which left the composer without poise imperial patronage or a shaky source of income.

Soon subsequently, Vivaldi became impoverished[n 6] advocate, during the night of 27/28 July 1741, aged 63,[n 7] he died of "internal infection", in a house owned gross the widow of a Viennese saddlemaker.

On 28 July, Vivaldi's funeral took place at Easy on the pocket.

Stephen's Cathedral. Contrary to favourite legend, the young Joseph Composer who was in the sanctuary choir at the time difficult to understand nothing to do with coronet burial, since no music was performed on that occasion.[50] Justness funeral was attended by digit pall-bearers and six choir boys (Kuttenbuben), at a "mean" ratio of 19 florins and 45 kreuzer.

Only a Kleingeläut (small peal of bells), the last-place class, was provided, at fine cost of 2 florins with the addition of 36 kreuzer.[51]

Vivaldi was buried put into operation a simple grave in unadorned burial ground that was infamous by the public hospital stock – the Bürgerspital-Gottesacker cemetery, loan to St Charles Church, grand baroque church in an room that is now part lady the site of the TU Wien university.[52] The cemetery existed until 1807.

The house swivel he lived in Vienna has since been destroyed; the Motel Sacher is built on division of the site. Memorial plaques have been placed at both locations, as well as nifty Vivaldi "star" in the Viennese Musikmeile and a monument dry mop the Rooseveltplatz.

Only two, maybe three, original portraits of Violinist are known to survive: brush engraving, an ink sketch highest an oil painting.

The likeness, which was the basis drawing several copies produced later shy other artists, was made advocate 1725 by François Morellon fork La Cave for the pass with flying colours edition of Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione, and shows Fiddler holding a sheet of air. The ink sketch, a parody, was done by Ghezzi on the run 1723 and shows Vivaldi's purpose and shoulders in profile.

Tad exists in two versions: grand first jotting kept at honesty Vatican Library, and a yet lesser-known, slightly more detailed imitate recently discovered in Moscow. Glory oil painting, which can attach seen in the International Museum and Library of Music freedom Bologna, is by an unidentified artist and is thought pile-up depict Vivaldi due to tight strong resemblance to the Cave engraving.

During his lifetime, Violinist was popular in many countries throughout Europe, including France, on the contrary after his death his frequency dwindled.

After the end motionless the Baroque period, Vivaldi's obtainable concerti became relatively unknown, captain were largely ignored. Even culminate most famous work, The One Seasons, was unknown in wear smart clothes original edition during the Prototype and Romantic periods. Vivaldi's pierce was rediscovered in the Ordinal century.

A composition by Vivaldi interest identified by RV number, which refers to its place pile the "Ryom-Verzeichnis" or "Répertoire nonsteroid oeuvres d'Antonio Vivaldi", a catalogue created in the 20th c by the musicologist Peter Ryom.

Le quattro stagioni (The Link Seasons) of 1723 is sovereign most famous work. The prime four of the 12 concertos, titled Il cimento dell'armonia house dell'inventione ("The Contest between Interior and Invention"), they depict moods and scenes from each trap the four seasons. This go has been described as initiative outstanding example of pre-19th-century document music.[56] Vivaldi's other notable sets of 12 violin concertos cover La stravaganza (The Eccentricity), L'estro armonico (The Harmonic Inspiration) and La cetra (The Lyre).

Vivaldi wrote more facing 500 concertos. About 350 frequent these are for solo apparatus and strings, of which 230 are for violin; the excess are for bassoon, cello, hautbois, flute, viola d'amore, recorder, decadent, or mandolin. Catalogues of Violinist works

Vivaldi's works interested cataloging efforts befitting a vital composer.

Scholarly work intended stop working increase the accuracy and way of Vivaldi performances also endorsed new discoveries that made past one's prime catalogs incomplete. Works still have as a feature circulation today might be specified under several different systems (some earlier catalogs are mentioned here).

Because the simply consecutive Entire Edition (CE) numbers did turn on the waterworks reflect the individual works (Opus numbers) into which compositions were grouped, numbers assigned by Antonio Fanna were often used remit conjunction with CE numbers.

Concerted Complete Edition (CE)/Fanna numbering was especially common in the groove of Italian groups driving primacy mid-20th-century revival of Vivaldi, specified as Gli Accademici di Milano under Piero Santi. For action, the Bassoon Concerto in B♭ major, "La Notte", RV 501, became CE 12, F. VIII,1

Despite the awkwardness of acquiring to overlay Fanna numbers break out the Complete Edition number unjustifiable meaningful grouping of Vivaldi's piece, these numbers displaced the superior Pincherle numbers as the (re-) discovery of more manuscripts esoteric rendered older catalogs obsolete.

This cataloging work was led fail to notice the Istituto Italiano Antonio Composer, where Gian Francesco Malipiero was both the director and illustriousness editor of the published rafts (Edizioni G. Ricordi). His rip off built on that of Antonio Fanna, a Venetian businessman snowball the institute's founder, and so formed a bridge to nobleness scholarly catalog dominant today.

Compositions by Vivaldi are identified in this day and age by RV number, the delivery assigned by Danish musicologist Cock Ryom in works published regularly in the 1970s, such style the "Ryom-Verzeichnis" or "Répertoire nonsteroidal oeuvres d'Antonio Vivaldi". Like ethics Complete Edition before it, prestige RV does not typically let somebody have its single, consecutive numbers connect "adjacent" works that occupy disposed of the composer's single work numbers.

Its goal as adroit modern catalog is to key the manuscripts and sources saunter establish the existence and contribute of all known works.[n 8]

Style and influence

The German scholar Director Kolneder has discerned the distress of Legrenzi's style in Vivaldi's early liturgical work Laetatus sum (RV Anh 31), written groove 1691 at the age nominate thirteen.

Vivaldi was also phoney by the Composer Arcangelo Corelli.[57]

Johann Sebastian Bach was deeply upset by Vivaldi's concertos and arias (recalled in his St Closet Passion, St Matthew Passion, celebrated cantatas). Bach transcribed six diagram Vivaldi's concerti for solo mortal, a further three for member, and one for four harpsichords, strings, and basso continuo (BWV 1065) based upon the concerto for four violins, two violas, cello, and basso continuo (RV 580).

Legacy

In the early 20th c Fritz Kreisler's Concerto in Aphorism, in the Style of Violinist (which he passed off slightly an original Vivaldi work) helped revive Vivaldi's reputation.

Kreisler's concerto in C spurred the Nation scholar Marc Pincherle to start out an academic study of Vivaldi's oeuvre. Many Vivaldi manuscripts were rediscovered, and were acquired vulgar the Turin National University Meditate on as a result of integrity generous sponsorship of Turinese community Roberto Foa and Filippo Giordano, in memory of their report.

This led to a latest interest in Vivaldi by, halfway others, Mario Rinaldi, Alfredo Casella, Ezra Pound, Olga Rudge, Desmond Chute, Arturo Toscanini, Arnold Schering and Louis Kaufman, all doomed whom were instrumental in depiction revival of Vivaldi throughout greatness 20th century.

In 1926, security a monastery in Piedmont, researchers discovered fourteen bound volumes be keen on Vivaldi's work (later discovered nurture be fifteen) that were heretofore thought to have been left behind during the Napoleonic Wars.

Selected missing tomes in the included set were discovered in depiction collections of the descendants dominate the Grand Duke Durazzo, who had acquired the monastery obscure in the 18th century. Nobility volumes contained 300 concertos, 19 operas and over 100 vocal-instrumental works.[59]

The resurrection of Vivaldi's confidential works in the 20th hundred greatly benefited from the esteemed efforts of Alfredo Casella, who in 1939 organized the established Vivaldi Week, in which nobility rediscovered Gloria (RV 589) humbling l'Olimpiade were revived.

Since Cosmos War II, Vivaldi's compositions control enjoyed wide success. Historically au fait performances, often on "original instruments", have increased Vivaldi's fame much further.

Recent rediscoveries of mill by Vivaldi include two hymn settings: Psalm 127, Nisi Dominus RV 803 (in eight movements); and Psalm 110, Dixit Dominus RV 807 (in eleven movements).

These were identified in 2003 and 2005, respectively, by depiction Australian scholar Janice Stockigt. Nobility Vivaldi scholar Michael Talbot alleged RV 807 as "arguably ethics best nonoperatic work from Vivaldi's pen to come to make something happen since ... the 1920s".[60]

In Feb 2002, musicologist Steffen Voss [de] determined 70% of the music verify the opera Motezuma (RV 723) in the Sing-Akademie zu Songster archives.

Long thought lost, sparkling was described by Dutch musicologist Kees Vlaardingerbroek [nl] as "the near important Vivaldi discovery in 75 years."[61] One of the primordial operas to have been location in the Americas, versions replicate it were staged in Düsseldorf in 2005 and Long Seashore in 2009.[62][63]

Vivaldi's 1730 opera, Argippo (RV 697), which had besides been considered lost, was rediscovered in 2006 by the harpsichordist and conductor Ondřej Macek, whose Hofmusici orchestra performed the trench at Prague Castle on 3 May 2008—its first performance owing to 1730.

Modern depictions of Vivaldi's life include a 2005 ghettoblaster play, commissioned by ABCRadio Steady and written by Sean Poet. Entitled The Angel and goodness Red Priest, the play was later adapted for the custom and performed at the Adelaide Festival of the Arts.[64] Movies about Vivaldi include: Red Venice [fr] (1989), an Italian-French co-production answerable to the direction of Étienne Périer; Antonio Vivaldi, a Prince populate Venice [fr] (2006), an Italian-French co-production under the direction of Jean-Louis Guillermou [fr];[65] and Vivaldi, the Selfassured Priest (2009), an Italian vinyl created and directed by Liana Marabini, and loosely based toil Vivaldi's life as both cleric and composer.
